The cafe opened on 26 June 1909. Having fulfilled its centenary, belongs to the group of the oldest cafes of Porto. For a long time the Anchor Cafe D'Ouro is affectionately called "Coffee Louse".
In fact, no one knows the reason for such designation, but there are many theories!
"The Anchor Cafe D'Ouro was the social center for excellence ... was and always will be our dear lice.
Since when the gold D'Anchor was attended by students of the University but not only. Teachers also were there, and of course the living was somewhat ceremonious. Then someone starts to say that this was a "lousiness"!
It would be a teacher? It would be a student?
We'll never know, but we know that the name stuck.
The frequency is traditionally the student universe, partly due to being surrounded by the former Faculty of Sciences and the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto.
