The CCBB was first conceived in 1986 during the administration of President Dr. Camillo BB Calazans of Magellan, being inaugurated in Rio de Janeiro in 1989, a historic building of 17,000 m2 built in 1906 and had housed the headquarters of the Bank of Brazil since the 1920s.
In the first and second floors are held exhibitions that change every two months. The museum is located on the sixth floor and features a permanent exhibition, Brazil Through the Currency, which features a collection consisting of approximately 38,000 items, including coins, medals, banknotes and other securities and foreign printed.
The space also offers programming that includes shows, film shows, debates, workshops and conference cycles. Another highlight is the musical program with performances of all styles, held during the lunch hour and also in after work
