This was the first building (and Church) built in Valletta commissioned by the Grandmaster de Vallette who gives his name to the capital. It was a commemoration of the victory over the Turks in the Great Siege. Grandmaster de Vallette was originally entombed in this church before moving to more grand space in the Co-Cathedral.
