Tunpuca Volcano

medium

The Volcano Tunupa is situated on a peninsula of the Salar de Uyuni and provides fantastic views to the Salar because it overtops the Salar de Uyuni more than 1500 meters. Due to its outstanding location the Volcano Tunupa is a holy mountain of the Aymara people.
Its name comes from the Andean god Tunupa, master of lightning and volcanic flares.

At its top, the geological formation reaches 5432 meters of altitude above sea level and is part of the Cordillera Andes. Is the 11th highest point of country.

The region has some diverse vegetation, mainly composed of thorny plants. Last attended by the Cougars, who now seem to have left the area because of the intensity of tourism.
