It is an eerie place...A little bit off the beaten track, not as well known as a beach next door. A beautiful West Coast beach where Manukau Harbour and Tasman sea come together in a stunning deserted beach. It looks like a moon landscape, not that we have seen one, but that is probably what it would have looked like. Black sand (high iron content), sand dunes, stunning majestic vistas that have seen kauri loggers, ship disasters, and as the locals have it, a place where friendly ghosts appear too. A place of colonial history. There are lots of tracks you can go tramping along, caves to explore. There is a lodge nearby, where you can stay to allow yourself more time to explore. It is a gem.
