The Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation is housed by the Riga Dom Cathedral and is the oldest public museum in Latvia and the Baltic.

The museum shows the development of Riga from the ancient villages of Riga and the ancient port in the 12th—13th century to the period of the Hansa League in the 13th—16th centuries and the Polish and Swedish rule in the 16th—17th centuries.

The Museum has three branches: The Ainaži Naval School Museum (opened in 1969), and in Riga – Mentzendorf House. 17th-18th century Rigan house-museum (1992) and the Photography Museum of Latvia (1993).
