The National History Museum of Latvia was founded in 1869 by the Riga to collect, preserve, research and popularise spiritual and material culture from Latvia and the world from ancient times until today, which has archaeological, ethnographic, numismatic, historical or artistic significance, in the interests of the Latvian nation and its people.

Today the National History museum of Latvia stores twelve exhibitions and more then 900.000 items of archaeology, ethnography, numismatic, history, researches and replicas. This house of cultural treasures holds spiritual and material heritage of Latvian history since 9000 BC. 8 permanent exhibitions bring on the evidence of Latvian life until crucial 1940. The Temporary exhibition each year holds about 4-7 new exhibitions of historical significance of Latvia.
