Magma Arte & Congresos is a multidisciplinary building, able to present itself as conference center, exhibition space, music hall, theatre. This versatility is possible thanks to its unique design and possibility to rearrange the space through the use of mobile panels. It was inaugurated in November 2005.
The infrastructure covers a 22,000 squared meters surface, realized by the local architects AMP (Artengo, Martí­n and Pastrana), with a 30 million euro investment.
The main block is composed by twelve concrete monoliths, some of the dimensions of small buildings, that form a Stonehenge-like rough circle or as fortress’s bastions, and that support the volumes of the undulating roofs, designed as light and abstract forms decorated with fiber-concrete and zinc panels.
In the process, concrete was mixed and combined with a volcanic rock of a light coloring ( “piedra chasnera”), to give the idea of the entire building being itself the product of a natural volcanic eruption. Moreover, the undulating shapes on its top would represent the waves of the ocean. The building gets natural light and ventilation thanks to skylights oriented towards North.
