Hyde Park Barracks Museum

medium

Built in 1819, Hyde Park Barracks was built to clothe and feed convict men and boys.

Here you can see dormitories for female immigrants and destitute women were added upstairs and the Barracks became known as the Hyde Park Asylum.

This builfing is one of the examples of convict transportation and the colonial expansion of European powers through the presence and labour of convicts.

Today Hyde Park Barracks became a hub of government departments and renamed Chancery Square.
