The city can be divided in several districts or areas. Here are some of the most important to visit:
The city centre is the traditional heart of Kuala Lumpur. The popular Merdeka Square, Sultan Abdul Samad Building and Selangor Club are to be found here.
Golden Triangle, on the north-east of the city centre, is the place where you´ll find the shopping malls, five-star hotels, Petronas Twin Towers and nightclubs.
Tuanku Abdul Rahman Located just beside the Golden Triangle this is the traditional vibrant shopping district of Kuala Lumpur. The huge Putra World Trade Centre and the traditional Kampung Baru food paradise are some of the most important landmarks.
In the Northern suburbs you will find the Batu Caves, the National Zoo and the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
The weather is quite regular, with warm days and pleasant evenings. On the afternoons sometimes there are thunderstorms, usually passing quickly to leave the evenings cool and rain free.
HOW TO GET THERE
The Kuala Lumpur International Airport is 43km (27 miles) away from the city centre.
An express bus service operates to hotels in Kuala Lumpur via the Hentian Duta bus terminal. From Hentian Duta there are several buses connecting to the city centre during the day.
The cheapest way to travel to the city is by combined bus and train. The Stage Bus Service leaves the airport for Nilai KTM Station, and from there trains travel to Kuala Lumpur Railway Station.
The KLIA Ekpres and KLIA Transit trains link the airport to Kuala Lumpur (KL Sentral) in 30 minutes.
Taxis are also available and must be pre-paid in the arrivals area at the airport.
