Vienna is one of the most charming cities of Europe and possibly the most sumptuous. This city is rich in culture and history, reaching our imagination with the beautiful waltzes and balls at the amazing Opera buildings, the Spanish Riding School and the traditional cafés. But at the same time, Vienna is a young, trendy and creative cosmopolitan centre.

ORIENTATION

This city has a very easy layout, becoming very simple for the traveller to move around. Vienna is divided in 23 districts, and the city centre is the first one, encircled by the so called Ringstraße (Ring Road). This Ring is a big boulevard built along the former old city walls. The most important places to visit are located in this district but there are also other things to see in the other ones, like the Prater, the Danube Tower, the Schönbrunn Palace (World Cultural Heritage).

BEST TIME TO GO

Vienna has a pleasant weather. In summer is usually warm and there are many cultural events. The winter is quite cold and rainy, and some times it snows. The Austrian love to spend time outside and even in winter, with a glass of Glühwein, the Christmas markets are absolutely wonderful to get together with friends.

HOW TO GET THERE

Vienna’s International Airport (www.viennaairport.com) stays 20 km from the centre. The CAT airport train (www.cityairporttrain.com) takes 16 minutes to the centre, costs 8 € and leaves every 30 minutes.

The Airport Express bus takes 20 minutes to the centre costs €6 and leaves every 30 minutes. The train (Schnellbahn S7) takes 32 minutes to the centre, and a ticket costs € 3,40. Airport taxi costs from €27 and takes about 15 minutes.

TRAVELLING AROUND

Vienna has a fine public transport system, including commuter rail, underground, trams (trolleys), and buses. The subway system is particularly good. You can also buy the Vienna Card (Wien Karte). It costs €18.50 and is valid for 72 hours. The card also can get you discounts at the major museums and art galleries and some shops.
