Avignon is one of the most important cities of Provence, in Southern France, and is located on the banks of the Rhône River. The city has around 200.000 inhabitants and is very famous because in the 14th century was home of the Catholic Church Popes.

Avignon is located on the left bank of the Rhône River, some miles above its convergence with the Durance River. Avignon occupies a large area, not completely populated and is covered by many parks and gardens. The city has a wide variety of buildings and monuments ranging from the modern to the old.
BEST TIME TO GO
July and August are very warm months in this city, but it is really worth it for the Annual Theatre Festival, in July. The ambience and street theatre give the city a wonderful feeling.
HOW TO GET THERE
The Avignon - Caumont Airport is located about 8 km southeast of Avignon. It’s also possible there to get there by TGV. From Paris it takes 2h40 and trains leave 12 times a day.
TRAVELLING AROUND
The city is really small and easy to visit walking. To discover the surrounding areas, to rent a car is a good option.
