Provence is a region on the southeast of France, by the Alps and by the Mediterranean. Provence includes the French Riviera and is famous for its sun, colourful nature, traditions, delicious food and wines. This region’s most important attractions include the city of Avignon and the extensive diversity of typical villages which can be easily visited by car or bicycle.

REASONS TO GO

The beaches, the mountains, the villages perches, the lavender plantations, the art, the gastronomy and wines;

Romanic scenery and medieval architecture;

Place of inspiration for some of the most famous painters in the world, like Cézanne, Picasso, Matisse, Renoir and Van Gogh.

ORIENTATION

The Provence region, located on the southeast of France, has the Rhône River on its western border, Italy on the east and the Mediterranean on the south.

BEST TIME TO GO

The high season - July and August is a good time to visit, but a bit more expensive than the rest of the year. June and September are probably the best months.

In May the region is covered in green and flowers fulfil the landscapes. Nevertheless, this is not the best time to go to Cannes and Monte Carlo, due to the Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix. The ski season in the Alpes d’Azur goes from November until April.

HOW TO GET THERE

The two closest airports are in Nice (www.nice.aeroport.fr) and in Marseille (www.mrsairport.com).

Train connections from Lyon and Paris are exceptional. The TGV gets there in about three hours. Typical entry cities include Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, and Valence. From these cities, one can easily travel around the astonishing region.

TRAVELLING AROUND

The best way to get around in the region is by car. The small villages are very close from each other and the country roads are overwhelming.
