Warsaw is the capital of Poland with around 2785000 inhabitants (metropolitan area), located on the Vistula River about 370 kilometres (230 mi) from both the Baltic Sea coast and the Carpathian Mountains.

ORIENTATION

Warsaw spreads along the river Vistula which crosses and divides the city in two: the left and the right bank.
The city's central district is called Śródmieście and sits on the left bank. The Old Town is enclosed inside the borders of the city centre.
The Palace of Culture and Science is a landmark perceptible from almost any place in Warsaw. This Palace, as well as the central railway station (Dworzec Centralny) is to be found at the quarter surrounded by Al. Jerozolimskie, ul. Marszałkowska, al. Jana Pawła II, and ul. Świętokrzyska.
Warsaw has very cold winters, and even tough in Spring and Autumn it is generally quite rainy, the best months to visit are May, June, September and October.
HOW TO GET THER
By plane
The Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport is located about 15 km from the city centre.
You can get to the city centre by bus number 175, in about 30 minutes.
By Train
In Warsaw there are three big railway stations for international and domestic connections: Warsaw Western (Warszawa Zachodnia), Warsaw Central (Warszawa Centralna), Warsaw Eastern (Warszawa Wschodnia). The Central Station, located right in the city centre has the best connections with all the places in the city.
