Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, with around 300.000 inhabitants is a nice small city full of charisma. This baroque and art nouveau city has many art galleries, museums and new trendy artists.

ORIENTATION
This small city is easy to visit walking. The Ljubljanica River runs all the way through the centre of town, passing by the Baroque buildings and under the fortifications of the ancient castle on the hill.
On the west part of the river is located the new and modern part of the city, while the old city and the castle are on the east bank. There are many beautiful bridges connecting the two sides of the city.
BEST TIME TO GO
September is a good time to visit the city, with all the open air esplanades full of tourists and students. April and May are also pleasant but probably more humid.
HOW TO GET THERE
The Jože Pučnik Airport (also known as Brnik Airport) is placed 27 km north of the city.
The buses transfers from the airport to the centre run every 50 min (regular buses) and 30 min (minibuses). If you take a taxi, it will cost around € 35.
TRAVELLING AROUND
The city centre is very compact and easy to walk around. You can also rent a bike in the summer and early autumn months (http://www.visitljubljana.si). It’s very easy and cheap (€1 per two hours or € 5 all day).
