ORIENTATION
Madrid is built on the bank of Manzanares River and is located north east from the centre of the Iberian Peninsula. We can find the most famous tourist attractions in the city centre such as Plaza Mayor, Palacio Real, Plaza de Colón and Puerta del Sol. One of the most important articulations of the city is the Gran VÃa.
BEST TIME TO GO
The climate of Madrid is continental, having cold and rainy winters and very hot summers. Spring is the best time to visit, and particularly in May, when besides the fine weather, the city will be hosting San Isidro festivities.
HOW TO GET THERE
The Barajas International Airport is located about 20 minutes from the city. To reach the centre you can take the Metro (line eight) or a bus service. Taxis cost about €25.
TRAVELLING AROUND
An integrated network of buses and subways work in the city and you can use the same tickets. A single ticket is € 1 and a ten trip ticket is €7.40. The metro of Madrid can take you directly to all the most important places in the city.
