Oviedo is the capital of Principality of Asturias, in the North of Spain. It has an attractive old town with a variety of monuments listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
This city is very close to Gijón (28km) and Avilés (30 km).

ORIENTATION
The city of Oviedo, right in the centre of Asturias has lots of squares which help us to move around the city. The Cathedral square takes us to the square of Alfonso II the Chaste, which connects the palaces of Valdecarzana and la Rúa.
In Cimadevilla, the oldest part of the historic town, we find plaza de Trascorrale and the Constitution Square, where stand the City Hall and the church of San Isidoro.
BEST TIME TO GO
Te winter is rather cold and rainy in this region. Therefore it’s more advisable and pleasant to travel between spring and autumn.
HOW TO GET THERE
The Airport of Asturias is about 40km away from Oviedo. The bus is the more economic way to get city centre, for less than €6 and taking from 40 to 50 minutes. A taxi ride will cost around € 50 and take 20 to 25 minutes.
TRAVELLING AROUND
The best way to visit the city is by foot. Most of the city attractions are in walking distance and also the streets in the centre are closed to traffic, making it very hard to go by car.
The local Buses can also be used and a single ticket costs less than one euro.
