The grounds of this park were obtained by the canalization of the Mapocho River in 1891. In 1900 the administrator Enrique Cousino began the construction of the Forestal Park with his fellow countryman Jorge Dubois.

Many monuments, sculptures, and species of trees are found here. It is a must on Sundays for the people of Santiago, who come here for their weekly stroll. It is especially pretty in autumn and a blessing on hot summer days. It is an oasis in the middle of the concrete jungle and noise of the large city.
