The United Arab Emirates is a federation of seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Qaiwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah.
It is located along the south-eastern side of the Arabian, at the entrance to the Persian Gulf. Qatar lies to the west, Saudi Arabia to the south and west, and Oman to the north and east. The capital and largest city of the federation, Abu Dhabi, is located in the emirate of the same name.
Its territory consists mostly of desert areas, yet it is a country of contrasting landscapes, from breathtaking dunes to rich oases, steep rocky mountains to fertile plains and perfect for sun, sand, sea, sports, shopping and with top-class hotels and restaurants.
