Excellent museums and art galleries

Fantastic gastronomy and top restaurants

The relaxed life style around the harbour

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Auckland's maritime climate has very pleasant temperatures. The winter goes from June to August and has some sporadic frosts. In summer temperatures round the mid 20s Celsius (upper 70s Fahrenheit), though it can become rather moist.

ORIENTATION

Most tourist sites are situated around the city centre, such as the waterfront.

The city's main street, Queen Street has many nearby interesting sights, such as the Town Hall, the Albert Park, the Auckland City Art Gallery, and the Heritage Gallery. On the southeast of the centre is the vast Auckland Domain, with the beautiful Auckland Museum.

HOW TO GET THERE

Auckland International Airport is located 21km (14 miles) south of central Auckland, in the suburb of Mangere. The airport terminals are linked by a regular free shuttle bus service.

Airbus Express  connects the airport with the Downtown Ferry Terminal and various hotels and hostels.

Super Shuttle operates private shuttle services into the city.

Local buses and taxis can also take you to the city centre and other locations.

TRAVELLING AROUND

To move around the island the best option is probably to rent a car. There are also several buses and taxis.
