Innsbruck is the provincial capital of Tyrol with around 110.000 inhabitants. It is located in a valley between high mountains like the Nordkette in the north, Patscherkofel and Serles in the south. The city is well known for its winter and summer sports, practiced in the Alps. Several ski resorts are to be found nearby the city.
Nowadays, Innsbruck is a small city where tourists get the feeling of being in a small village in the middle of the Alps. The historical centre, located in the bank of the Inn River, together with the axis formed by the streets Friederich Strasse and Maria Theresien Strasse, is easy to visit in a few hours.

BEST TIME TO GO
The best time of the year to visit Innsbruck is winter, from October to February. Summer weather is very unstable. You can get days with 17º C and days with 34º C.
HOW TO GET THERE
Innsbruck Airport (www.innsbruck-airport.com) is the largest one in Tirol, and stays just 4 km away from the city centre. The bus line F goes to the city centre (every 15 minutes during the week) or you can take a taxi for around 20 € (15 minutes).
It is also possible to get to Innsbruck by the Tyrol’s motorways (A12 and A13).
TRAVELLING AROUND
You can consider buying the Innsbruck-Card. It offers free use of the public transports and access to all of Innsbruck's sights. It also includes a one-time up & down to Nordkette, Patscherkofel and Axamer Lizum. It costs 25/30/35 euro for 1/2/3 day cards.
The public transports are a good option, as they are integrated, meaning that tickets are valid buses, trams and trains, and you can also buy daily tickets.
There is also the “Sightseer", a special bus line that connects the most important sights like Schloß Ambras, Bergisel and Alpenzoo to downtown. Tram line 6 takes you from Innsbruck to the mountain village Igls, which is worth a visit.
