Split is a Croatian city located in Central Dalmatia with more than 220.000 inhabitants. The city was initially constructed around the Diocletian Palace, a fortress that the locals used as shelter, centuries ago. Visiting the historic centre of the city you can still recognize the Roman temples, walls and squares.

REASONS TO GO

Assist to The Split Music Festival and the Split Summer Theatre festival, both taking place in summer.

Diocletian Palace (UNESCO heritage site) – the centre of Split is built within the walls of this Roman palace.

A breathtaking sailing trip in the near islands.

ORIENTATION

Split is positioned on a cape between the eastern part of the Gulf of Kaštela and the Split Channel. The Marjan Mountain with its 178 m rises in the western part of the peninsula.

From the ferry terminals and from the intercity bus station, the city centre is easily reachable walking.

BEST TIME TO GO

Split has a Mediterranean climate: very hot and dry, warm and wet winters. The summer is a good time to go: many festivals and great weather for visiting and sailing.

HOW TO GET THERE

Split Airport is 25 km west from Split, close to the city of Trogir. Airport buses leave from the terminal to the city centre and a single ticket costs 30 kunas.

Taxis will also drive you into town and cost around € 20.

TRAVELLING AROUND

Central Split is quite dense and most tourist attractions can be easily visited and best experienced on foot, but there are regular local buses to faraway attractions and to the airport.

Another cool way of visiting the city is by bike (www.splitbiketour.tk).
