Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic with around 1.200.000 inhabitants. This city has a magical atmosphere, with its golden spires, cathedrals and bridges over the Vltava. Prague is furthermore a contemporary and exciting city with regular cultural and musical events, chic hotels and trendy restaurants.
Prague is a breathtaking fairytale of architectural treasures
The old town square, the Charles Bridge and the amazing Castle
The lively nightlife – From the traditional beer halls to the top modern dance clubs
Visiting in July and August as the city will be overcrowded with tourists.
ORIENTATION
The Vltava River separates the city in two parts, eastern and western. Both sides are connected by twenty bridges.
The New Town is in the east bank of the river. A great part of the New Town that borders the Old Town from the east (Republic Square lies on the border) and south is part of the Prague principal district, where Wenceslas Square, the main boulevard in Prague, and the National Theatre are to be found.
The modern city airport, Ruzynì, is situated about 20 km northwest of the city centre and has direct flights from most major European cities.
Getting into the city from the airport:
By bus
Buy a ticket from the kiosk in the arrivals hall or the vending machine, next to the bus stop. Take bus 119 to its terminus (Dejvická) and go downstairs to the metro. The ticket will still be valid in the metro. You can also take bus 100 to the subway station Zličín (metro B).
Airport Express (bus operated by Czech Railroads): These buses leave the airport every 30 minutes and take you to the railway and subway station Dejvická and Masarykovo nádrazí. The last stop will be Prague's main train station.
Cedaz bus: These buses depart every 30 minutes, going through the subway station Dejvická (metro A) and then into the city centre to the Náměstí Republiky (metro B).
A taxi run to the city centre will cost around 500 to 700 CZK with AAA Company.
By train
Prague has two international train stations: Hlavní Nádraží (the central station, also known as Praha hl.n.) and Praha Holešovice. Both have connections with Metro Line C.
The city centre of Prague is easy and amazing to walk around. However you can also choose the public transports, which work very well. Metro, trams and buses cover the whole city and the periphery.
