ORIENTATION
Bordeaux is positioned close to the European Atlantic coast, in the southwest of France. It is around 500 km (310 mi) southwest of Paris. The city grew on the banks of the river Garonne. Bordeaux is one of the most economically dynamic French cities. The centre of the town is still very traditional, with stone mansions and elegant terraces.
BEST TIME TO GO
Bordeaux's climate is oceanic, with warm summers and mild winters. A good time to visit would be in the late winter or spring, when there are fewer tourists. In autumn many of the wineries are closed.
HOW TO GET THERE
The Bordeaux-Merignac Airport is located in the west part of the city. An express bus departs every 45 minutes to the city centre for € 7. A taxi run takes around 30 minutes and costs € 20.
It is also possible to travel to Bordeaux by train - there are several trains to/from Paris and other cities.
TRAVELLING AROUND
Bordeaux is rather a big city, but most of the important attractions are in the town centre. The best way to explore the city is by walking. You can also rent a bike or use the bus and tramways lines. To cross the river there is also a ferry service - Le Bus du Fleuve.
