La Rochelle is a city in the province of Charente-Maritime, on the southwest of France. This port city on the Atlantic coast has more than 80.000 inhabitants and is located between Nantes and Bordeaux.
The Old Port is the oldest and the most scenic part of La Rochelle. Most of the town buildings are very old but well preserved. The narrow streets and pasty stone buildings give the Old Port a particularly Mediterranean quality.

La Rochelle is a city in south-western France and a seaport on the Bay of Biscay, a part of the Atlantic Ocean.
The heart of the city is the "Vieux Port" ("Old Harbour") and from there you can take a boat trip to the Ile d'Aix and Fort Boyard. Nearby, the Ile de Ró is a short drive to the North.

HOW TO GET THERE
La Rochelle Airport is close to the town centre and to the Ile de Ró. A taxi run costs between Euro 15 and Euro 20.
La Rochelle is also connected to Paris by TGV with many trains per day and taking around three hours.
TRAVELLING AROUND
La Rochelle is easily explored by foot or by bicycle. There are also bus lines that take you to the most important attractions. To visit the close islands and the Fort Boyard, there are available boats and ferry services in the Old Port.
