Óbidos derives from the Latin word oppidum, meaning "citadel", "fortified city".

In addition to excellent restaurants and typical tavernas, it is possible to find within the castle of Óbidos one of the most beautiful hostels in Portugal.

Visit the many craft shops scattered through the streets pretty typical, where you can find everything from pottery typical of the region, such as hand-painted tiles, plaster and portals made beautifully decorated by local artisans.

ORIENTATION

Óbidos is a town in the Portuguese district of Leiria, Centro region and subregion of the West with about 3100 inhabitants.

It is the seat of a municipality with about 10,875 inhabitants, divided into nine parishes. The municipality is bordered to the northeast and east by the municipality of Caldas da Rainha, by the south Bombarral, Lourinhã the southwest, west and north of the Peniche coast in the Atlantic Ocean.

WHEN TO GO

Any time is good to visit this rustic town, however we invite you to attend three events highlight: Óbidos Vila Natal, which is between December and January, the Chocolate Festival which takes place between March and April and the Medieval Market in Óbidos July.

HOW TO GET THERE
By car, from Lisbon to go to Leiria, take the A8 and leave the motorway at exit 15.
If you come from Santarém take Highway A15 and from the north take the A1 until Leiria and then head towards the A8.

If you opt for the train there is a train stop in Obidos, however the station is far from the town center.

GETTING AROUND

As a city built inside a wall is the ideal walk because the movement of cars is allowed only in small paths just to load or unload the bags.

However, if you have taken a car there are two paid parking lots, clearly marked on the outside of the Historic Center and there is a park for caravans also paid.

The Tourist Office of Obidos is a bicycle rental service adult and children's tours to the municipality of Óbidos, and the rental price is € 5.05 per half-day.

BUS

On average, a bus ticket Lisbon - Obidos will the price of € 8.00.

CAR HIRE

If you prefer to rent a taxi look at the city entrance, near the Tourist Office or ask the hotel to call it.

TIPS:

Do not leave without tasting the famous Obidos Ginginha a glass of chocolate!
