Ibiza is the third largest island of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Together with Formentera they form the two Pine Islands or Pityuses. The biggest cities are the Ibiza Town (or Vila), Santa Eulalia des Riu and Sant Antoni de Portmany.

The island has a large hippy community, and is very popular for its summer nightlife, but also for the beautiful bays and beaches of turquoise water.

REASONS TO GO

The enchanting forests filled with pine trees

The crazy and exciting nightlife

The beautiful beaches and small bays, with blue transparent waters along the coastline

ORIENTATION

The capital Ibiza is a very surprising and authentic place. There you can find the old quarter (Dalt Vila) and some monuments like the Portal de Ses Taules or the gothic-catalan Cathedral, founded on the 13th century.

Sant Antoni used to be a simple fishermen’s village and nowadays is a big tourist resort.

BEST TIME TO GO

Summer is usually the most popular time of the year to go to Ibiza, with temperatures around 25ºC. However, late spring or early autumn are also a good choice, as the weather is still fine and there is less people and confusion in the island.

HOW TO GET THERE

The Ibiza Airport is located 7 km southwest of Ibiza Town and serves the islands of Ibiza and Formentera. There are shuttles and taxis to take you to the centre and ferries to take you to Formentera.

It’s also possible to get to the islands by boat. Check: www.trasmediterranea.es , www.balearia.com , www.capebalear.es and www.iscomar.com .

TRAVELLING AROUND

Ibiza has a reasonable public transportation system. However if you want to explore the island the best you can do is to rent a car.

Taxis are also an option to travel around the island and normally cost €20-30 to go between cities.
