The demolition of the Carmelite Convent and the� market at the beginning of the 20th century allowed this area of the city to be remodeled.

Several buildings in Rua Cândido dos Reis were built around this time and they reflect the architecture of that period.

We can see several "art nouveau" features.

The building number 75-79 is a good example of it.
