National Press Museum

muy barato

The Printing Press Museum Association (AMI) opened the National Press Museum in 1997 in an old factory close to the Douro River. The museum houses more than 300 machines from different periods, including many that are still in working condition.

As well as the permanent exhibition room, there is another space put aside for temporary exhibitions which illustrate the social and cultural importance of the art of printing. The Rodrigo Álvares Room is an homage to the first Portuguese printer who printed two books in Porto in 1497.

There is a section dedicated to cartoons - the Caricature Gallery - and the museum hosts the annual PortoCartoon-World Festival. The Caricature Gallery holds one of the best cartoon collections in the world.
