ORIENTATION
Hong Kong is located on the southeast coast of China, by the Pearl River, facing the South China Sea. The territory is formed by Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula and the New Territories. At the centre is Victoria Harbour, which separates Hong Kong Island from Kowloon and the New Territories. The New Territories also incorporates over 250 outlying islands, including Lantau where the airport is situated.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Hong Kong is a perfect destination to visit all year round. However, the most popular time to visit is from the middle of September to the end of February, when the weather is cooler and less humid.
HOW TO GET THERE
Hong Kong's airport is located 45km (28 miles) from the city centre, at Chek Lap Kok on Lantau Island.
Transport to the city: Rails, buses, ferries, and taxis connect the airport to Central Hong Kong, leaving from the Ground Transportation Centre.
TRAVELLING AROUND
Hong Kong has a great public transport system, incorporating an underground railway, light urban railways, buses, minibuses, boats, ferries and trams. The Octopus card can be used in all of them.
