Casa do Infante, Ribeira Originally built in 1325 as a customs house and residence for visiting royal officials, a mint was added in the 16th century. Henry the Navigator was born here in 1677 and it remained a customs house until the 19th century, when a new larger building was constructed on the riverside. There is a small but interesting museum. National Press Museum, Ribeira The Printing Press Museum Association (AMI) opened the National Press Museum in 1997 in an old factory close to the Douro River. The museum houses more than 300 machines from different periods, including many that are still in working condition. As well as the permanent exhibition room, there is another space put aside for temporary exhibitions which illustrate the social and cultural importance of the art of printing. The Rodrigo Álvares Room is an homage to the first Portuguese printer who printed two books in Porto in 1497. S. Francisco Church and Museum, Ribeira A gothic construction from the XIVth century although some features were added later, such as the door which dates from the XVII-XVIIIth centuries. Inside, the church is covered with Baroque golden carvings. It´s worth pointing out the “St. João Baptista” chapel from the XVth century and the “Jessé Tree” engraved in polychromatic wood from the XVIIIth century. The Church is beautiful, there's gold, gold, gold, everywhere. Too bad that picture taking is not allowed inside the Church. You need to buy your entrance ticket and the museum entrance, in front of the main church door, and then cross a small courtyard to enter the church proper.
