The Casa Oriental was founded in 1910 and is located in Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, near the Clérigos Tower. It started by selling products from Oriental and African colonies, such as tea, coffee and chocolate, well highlighted in the big sign on the façade (representation of an African colonial scene). After the 2nd World War, the range of products increased, specially Portuguese regional products: sweets, sausages and smoked meats, fruits, vegetables, cheeses, olives, wines and liquors, After the "25th April” (1974), the shop was purchased by its current owner, José Maria Gama, who decided to make the codfish the brand image of the house….
