"Alminhas da Ponte" is a bronze plate from 1897 in memory of the “Ponte das Barcas†(“Boats Bridgeâ€) tragedy, which happened on 29th March 1809.
The bridge collapsed under the weight of people escaping from the French troops of Scult.
The Ponte Pênsil (Pensil Bridge) was opened in 17th February 1843 and desactivated in 1887.
The deck of the bridge had a span of 150m long and 6m wide, including the sidewalks with 1m each.
Among the pillars in both sides of the bridge there was a house; on the side of Porto it was collected the tolls, which were the double in the evening.
