The Museum of Science and the Cosmos is not a traditional museum. It belongs to a generation of science museums whose aim is to not only show scientific and technical achievements of a certain age or place, or to aimply demonstrate them in a plain pedagogical format.
The real goal is to communicate what science is, using all the available means, relying in a particular way over interactivity and experimentation across different fields, enhancing the ludical sides of perception and analysis of reality through a multimedial approach.
Casa de Carta is ubicated in Valle de Guerra, in La Laguna County.
It is a typical example of the family houses built in Canary Islands during the 18th century. Originally owned by the Guerra family, in 1726 was acquired by Captain Matías Rodríguez Carta, from whom it gets its present name.
The house passed under Tenerife Government property in 1976 and opened as museum in 1987.
The mission is to become an important cultural instrument in letting people know about Tenerife's costumes, behaviours and legends, while stimulating a reflexion over social and cultural themes.
