Hasting Gardens, All Areas for free Quieter than the barraca gardens and they look from the parapaet over to silemia. You get a real sense of the massiveness of the fortifications from here.Great for a peaceful afternoon while with family or friends. Quite relaxing as it is tucked away from all the busy Valletta roads. [ + plus ]

Lower Barrakka Gardens, All Areas for free A little walk from the city center, you find this secluded garden with a nice view over the harbour. There is a small pub Queen Elizabeth II at the entrance of the park that serves local food and beer if you need some refreshments. Smaller than the Upper Barrakka Gardens, they have their own charm. Manoel Theatre, All Areas This well worth a visit, not just for looking back at Maltese theatre but also to see how special effects were produced e.g the sound of rain and thunder. It is a very neat little theatre ornately decorated and the exhibits displayed very tastefully. The costumes are a delight and the posters from the past. It is an excellent tour. [ + plus ]

National Library of Malta, All Areas for free An interesting building. It is now a research-only library, but you are allowed to gain access as a visitor (show a copy of your passport). Once inside, there is an area before the researchers only point where you can admire the portraits and several important books in cases. Worth a look as you are leaving the Museum of Archaeology, which is about 5 minutes away. There are a few cafes outside where you can sit under parasols and enjoy drinks, snacks or full meals. Our Lady of Victories Church, All Areas for free This was the first building (and Church) built in Valletta commissioned by the Grandmaster de Vallette who gives his name to the capital. It was a commemoration of the victory over the Turks in the Great Siege. Grandmaster de Vallette was originally entombed in this church before moving to more grand space in the Co-Cathedral. St. John's Co Cathedral, All Areas St John’s Co-Cathedral is a gem of Baroque art and architecture. It was built as the conventual church for the Knights of St John. The Grand Masters and several knights donated gifts of high artistic value and made enormous contributions to enrich it with only the best works of art. Beautiful views, can see for miles and admire cruise ships that dock.Have a coffee at the outdoor cafe and watch the birds flitting through the trees amid the fountains in the magnificent gardens. Go at midday and you'll hear the big bang as the saluting battery gun goes off. [ + plus ]

Valetta Waterfront, All Areas for free There's quite a lot of fancy restaurants along this shiny new-looking promenade. Not too expensive either. Worth a look, especially if there is a huge cruise ship in. You won't spend all day here, and its pretty close to the bottom of that big scary metal stair case. Good views of the rest of the harbour also. [ + plus ]

Victoria Gate, All Areas for free This is not the main city gate, but it is the main gate from the Grand Harbour, and has recently been restored. [ + plus ]
