The occupancy of this parish dates back to the time of the Neolithic period as evidenced by the archaeological materials collected in place of Sand. The Bronze Age also has left traces of occupation in New Houses and Cerradinha, eastern shore of Lagoa de Santo Andre.
In the mid 1970s began to take root in the parish, in the area of Sandy Beach, hundreds of families attracted by the offer of work that the Sines Industrial Complex offered.
The then Urban Center of Santo Andre was characterized for years by a lack of infrastructure and equipment collective. With the extinction of the Enclosure of the Area of Sines the municipalities started to manage the urban center and the situation began to change with the integrated development in the parish, with the roots of their inhabitants and urban renewal that you were giving a new and pleasant image.
