The Portuguese Centre of Photography is a free public service based in the Old Jail Building at Oporto. It was created in 1997 by the Ministry of Culture and is currently overseen by the General Directorate of Archives. Its main aim is to promote skills and enhancement of the photographic archive that includes the treatment of species and management of National Photography Collection. It has a program of exhibitions, museum site, library, shop and guided tour service.
