Adam Mickiewicz Mí¼zesi, All Areas Adam Mickiewicz Museum is a historic house museum dedicated to the Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz. The house was renovated after a fire in 1870. The museum was opened in 1955 with the help of the Museum of Literature in Warsaw. The crypt where Mickiewicz was temporarily buried for the period of one month is located in the basement. Great Palace Mosaic Museum, All Areas Located close to Sultanahmet Square, the Great Palace Mosaic Museum features houses mosaics from the 6th-century (527-565) Byzantine period, unearthed at the site of the Great Palace of Constantinople. This museum was built on the northern section of the peristyle courtyard of the Great Palace of the Byzantine Empire, where mosaics used to decorate the pavement had been discovered partially in good condition. The pavement is estimated to have measured from 3500 to 4000 sq m in its original form. The 250 sq m that is preserved here is the largest discovered remnant – the rest has been destroyed or remains buried underneath the Blue Mosque and surrounding shops and hotels. [ + di più ]

Philoxenus Cistern, All Areas The 1001 Columns Cistern, also called the ‘Philoxenus Cistern’ or ‘Binbirdirek Cistern’ in Turkish, is the oldest known cistern in Istanbul. Constructed under a palace, often identified as the Palace of Antiochos in the 5th century, this cistern is a massive reservoir that is surrounded with a thick wall all around. Inside the cistern there were 224 columns (16 rows x14 columns) with the dimensions of 64m, 56m, 40m. Today, you can see only 212 of them exist. The museum possesses actually no collections, however, provides space for exhibitions within the Kadir Has University's building, a European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage winning redevelopment from the historical "Cibali Tabacco Factory".[1][2] . The museum consists of a cistern dating back to 11th century, called "Karanlık �eşme" (literally: "The Dark Fountain"), which is one of the few Byzantian structures outside of the Walls of Constantinople along Golden Horn.
