Schwarzenberskí½ Palác

medium

Schwarzenberg Palace designed by architect Agostino Galli in late 16th century dominating the square in front of Prague Castle is an essential part of the Prague Castle panorama. It is the second most important Renaissance building in Prague, after the Queen Anne's Summer Palace. Its facade and walls are richly decorated with sgraffito of northern Italian and Venetian type dated to 1567.

After the communist coup in 1948, the palace was converted into a military history museum. In 2002 the palace became the property of the National Gallery in Prague. Then there was a total reconstruction since 2008, serves as a permanent exhibition (Art Collection Renaissance, Mannerism and Baroque in Czech).
