Antonin Dvorak Museum, All Areas The Antonin Dvorak Museum is a part of the Czech Museum of Music which pertains to the complex of the National Museum. The museum displays photographs, newspaper cuttings, programmes and personal objects relating to the composer, including his viola and his piano. The building houses a unique collection of his manuscripts and correspondence, thus providing an important centre for research into Antoní­n Dvořák. Concerts are held there regularly, as well as seminars, lectures and exhibitions. [ + más ]

BedÅ™ich Smetana Museum, All Areas Bedřicha Smetana Musum is since 1936 situated on Vlatava shore, in neo-renaissance building of former Oldtowner Water-station from 80's of 19th century, in the nearest neighbourhood of Charles Bridge, on the place with beatiful view on Vltava river and Prague Castle. Exhibits include copies of letters, photographs and newspaper cuttings relating to Smetana’s life as well as various possessions including his earbone (Smetana suffered from deafness). There are also folders on music stands which contain material about some of Smetana’s most famous works. Church of Our Lady Victorious, All Areas libre This church is wellknown for of its architecture and artistic decoration, and specially preserved and venerated the famous statue of the Infant Jesus of Prague. A chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity was built on this site in 1584, following Rudolph II´s Letter of Majesty a larger church for German Protestants. With the Battle of White Mountain, 8 November 1620, the Counter-Reformation signalled the re-Catholicism of Prague. The church was given to the direction of the Carmelites in September 1624. The triumphalist altarpiece of Our Lady of Victory was sent from Rome by Pope Gregory XV. The Carmelites were ordered to hand over the church to Joseph II, Holy Roman Emperor, 3 June 1784. [ + más ]

Convent of Agnes of Bohemia, All Areas Considered the first Gothic building not only in Prague, but generally in Bohemia, this convent is dedicated to Agnes of Prague, a medieval Bohemian princess who opted for a life of charity, mortification of the flesh and piety over a life of luxury and comfort. Although she was venerated soon after her death, Agnes was not beatified or canonized for over 700 years. The first part of the exhibition on the first floor traces the development of Czech art from the panel paintings and sculptures of the mid-14th century (Master of the Vyšší­ Brod altar, Master of the Michle Madonna) and the "soft" style of Master Theodoric, to the paintings of the Master of the Třeboň Altar and those executed in the International style (St Vitus Madonna, St Peter of Slivice, variant of the Krumlov Madonna). Lapidary of the National Museum, All Areas The National Museum of Lapidary or the Lapidárium Národní­ho muzea is dedicated to sculpture and is the largest public collection in the Czech Republic. At the Lapidary you can see the original sculptures from the Charles Bridge, sculptures from the Loreto and statues from Vysehrad. The sculptures are showcased in eight exhibition halls. It is interesting to note that in 1995 the museum placed in the top ten most beautiful exhibitions in Europe at an international competition. [ + más ]

Maisel Synagogue, All Areas The synagogue was built at the end of the 16th century as a private house of prayer for the use of mayor Mordechai Maisel and his family. It serves today as a Jewish Museum, part of the collection of the Jewish Museum in Prague. There is placed a collection of silver objects in the centre of the exhibition, mainly the baroque levitical set, originaly from Pinkas synagogue. There are also exposed czech dinars, from 10th and 11th century, on whose coinage the Jewish moneyers participated. There is an interesting bill of debt from the year 1378, where, as a guarantee is stated Jan Zizka from Trocnov. Very impressive are also the images showing kinds of Jews discrimination, illustrationing antisemitic stereotypes. Other parts of the exposition are dedicated to scholars Akiva Hrovic, David Oppenheim, to theirs lives and work, to historian and astronomer David Gans, or to polyhistorian Josef Selomo Delmedigo. Mucha Museum, All Areas The world´s first Mucha Museum, dedicated to the life and work of the world-acclaimed Czech ART NOUVEAU artist Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), is housed in the Baroque Kaunický Palace in the very heart of Prague. The exhibiton gives an extensive overview of the artistic work of Alphonse Mucha (1860 - 1939). Special attention is paid to his time in Paris (1887-1904), internationally the most celebrated period of his work. A set of posters from this period is on show, including the most important made for Sarah Bernhardt. A set of his characteristic decorative panels and a number of examples from Documents Décoratifs (1902) give an idea of Mucha´s conception of Art Nouveau.     [ + más ]

Museum of Communism, All Areas Between a casino and a McDonald’s, you'll find the Museum of Communism in Prague. Here is possible to imagine how was the life of the Czech people during the times of the Soviet Union. Opened in 2001, the original items and installations containing authentic artifacts are displayed in the three main rooms of the museum and conveniently follow the themes of: Communism The Dream, The Reality and The Nightmare. Museum of Czech Cubism, All Areas The Museum of Czech Cubism is housed in the striking House at the Black Madonna in the heart of Staré M. The museum is situated in the centre of Prague, in an outstanding piece of Cubist architecture by Josef Go?ár, the Black Madonna House, at the point where Celetná St. meets Ovocný trh. The house dating from 1911–12, designed for František Josef Herbst as a department store with a café on the first floor, is an example of how a modern building can sensitively be incorporated in the historical core of the Old Town.   The fact that after the recent reconstruction its spaces have been assigned to the Museum of Czech Cubism owes to a brilliant decision by the Ministry of Culture. National Monument at Vitkov, All Areas Behind the statue of Jan Zizka on Vitkov Hill you can see a massive building of National Monument that was built in the years 1927 – 32 in honour of Czech legionary and foundation of the former Czechoslovakia. New National Museum, All Areas The Nová budova Národní­ho muzea or the New National Museum of Prague,is museum institution with the aim of prepare and publicly exhibit natural scientific and historical collections. Schwarzenberskí½ Palác , All Areas Schwarzenberg Palace designed by architect Agostino Galli in late 16th century dominating the square in front of Prague Castle is an essential part of the Prague Castle panorama. It is the second most important Renaissance building in Prague, after the Queen Anne's Summer Palace. Its facade and walls are richly decorated with sgraffito of northern Italian and Venetian type dated to 1567. After the communist coup in 1948, the palace was converted into a military history museum. In 2002 the palace became the property of the National Gallery in Prague. Sternberg Palace, All Areas The Sternberg Palace is Prague's premier gallery for European art. The Sternberg Palace exhibits European art mainly from the Classical Era to the Baroque, with emphasis on the 14th to 18th centuries. The first part encompasses the works of art from the ancient Greece and Rome. The first floor exhibition halls further house the famous works of 14th – 16th century art that come from the Konopište Castle collection of Archduke Franz Ferdinand d´Este. It contains the works of older Tuscan masters (B. Daddi, Lorenzo Monaco), the works of Venetian school (Vivarini workshop) and the masterpieces of Florentine Mannerism (A. Bronzino, A. Allori). The Star Summer Palace, All Areas The Star Royal Summer Palace or the Letohradek Hvezda is a renaissance villa situated in a game reserve of the same name (Obora Hvězda) in Liboc. The palace houses a small museum about its history and an exhibit on the battle of White Mountain. The impressive gleaming white ceiling and walls of the interior are adorned with Greek and Roman Gods and Goddesses; The Palace also offers two small exhibitions, one on the symbolism and magic of the design of the Star Palace and other whimsical hexagram structures around the world, and another on Czech writers and artists, such as Mikolas Ales.
