Cathedral of the Archangel, All Areas libre The Archangel Michael was chosen as the patron saint of the rulers of Muscovy in the 14th Century and is s a Russian Orthodox church. There are 54 burials in the cathedral, with 46 ornamented whitestone tombstones (1636–1637) and glazed cases made of bronze (1903). Of note is the tomb of Tsarevich Demetrius, the son of Ivan the Terrible, was buried there in the early 17th century and was later canonized. During the 1917 Russian Revolution, the cathedral was damaged during the fighting. Afterwards, it was closed by the Bolshevik regime. During the 1950s, along with the other surviving churches in the Moscow Kremlin, was preserved as a museum. A large portion of the church’s treasures were either transferred to the Kremlin Armory Museum, or sold overseas. The house is a visual fantasy with sculpted doorways, ceiling murals, stained glass, a carved stone staircase and exterior tile work. St. Basil's Cathedral, All Areas Located in the Red Square, the Pokrovsky Cathedral better known as St. Basil's Cathedral is a Russian Orthodox church. The building is shaped as a flame of a bonfire rising into the sky, a design that has no analogues in Russian architecture. The cathedral’s apparent anarchy of shapes hides a comprehensible plan of nine main chapels: the tall, tent-roofed one in the centre; four big, octagonal-towered ones, topped with the four biggest domes; and four smaller ones in between. Legend has it that Ivan had the architects blinded so they could never build anything comparable. This is a myth, however, as records show that they were employed a quarter of a century later (and four years after Ivan’s death) to add an additional chapel to the structure. Wooden Palace of Kolomenskoye, All Areas libre The Wooden Palace of Kolomenskoye is a former royal estate situated several miles to the south-east of Moscow city-centre, on the ancient road leading to the town of Kolomna (hence the name). It was here that Tsar Alexis Mikhailovich built an elaborate wooden palace in the second half of the 17th century. After being demolished in 1872, only a few gates and outside buildings remain. Fortunately a wooden model (commissioned by Catherine the Great) and several drawings of the palace survived, and the Moscow Government begun its full-scale reconstruction in the 1990s. Builders used a special kind of wood that was found in the Krasnoyarsk region of Siberia. Because of its restorer, old wooden buildings and various artifacts were transported to Kolomenskoye from different parts of the USSR for preservation, so currently Kolomenskoye Park hosts an impressive set of different constructions and historical objects.
