The house Sigurhæðir accommodates the Memorial Museum of the Reverend Matthí­as Jochumsson (1835-1920) who had the house built in 1903. Here office rooms are rented out, equipped with all the latest technology and intended for the use of scholars and poets engaged in creative writing. The library of Dr. Steingrí­mur J. Thorsteinsson has just been moved into the building and provides a good basis for such literary activities. Under the auspices of the Memorial Foundation, courses and lectures are arranged and special literary exhibitions organised as well as programmes whose aim is to present to the public the special cultural heritage of Icelandic literature in its spoken and written form.
