San Sebastian, located on the coast of the Cantabric Sea has one of the best in-city beaches in Europe. This city is small and inviting, with plenty of fish and seafood restaurants, many beaches, loads of pintxos bars and trendy designer clothes shops.

REASONS TO GO

The beautiful beach La Concha

The Basque experimental avant-garde new cuisine

The perfect conditions to practice a wide variety of water sports

ORIENTATION

The city of San Sebastian is located in the north of the Basque Country, with a pretty coastline that makes of it a popular beach route. Adding to the seaside setting, it profits from mountainous background easily available.

The area around the La Concha beach is the city centre. The historic centre (Casco Viejo) stays a bit northern to this quarter and is formed by narrow streets and small beautiful squares.

South from La Concha you will find a wide variety of quality stores.

BEST TIME TO GO

The Best time to visit this region is in autumn. The mild weather with temperatures raging from 16 and 21ºC, together with the autumn leaves, give the city a special magnetism.

In this time of the year the sea is still fine for the water sport practice. Besides that, in the surroundings of the region you can enjoy the rituals of the harvest in Rioja.

HOW TO GET THERE

San Sebastian holds a small airport 24 km from the centre, next to Hondarribia. The bus i2 (www.iparbus.com) leaves every hour to Plaza Gipuzkoa and takes 30 min for just € 3. A taxi ride costs around € 30.

TRAVELLING AROUND

San Sebastian is a small and compact city, very easy to visit by foot. You also have available a good bus service (www.dbus.es/web) that connects the principal quarters and suburban areas.

It is also possible to buy the city card – Donostia for about €10. It offers discounts in the museums entries and 3 days of free transport on the city buses. The buses from PESA (www.pesa.net)    have a connection between San Sebastian and Bilbao leaving every hour and costing € 8.
