Housed in the Bank of England itself this museum shows the history of the Bank from 1694, when it was founded by the Royal Charter to raise money for foreign wars.

Exhibits include a gold bar dating from ancient times, unique coin and bank note collections, as well as other items uncovered when the bank was rebuilt in the 1930's such as Roman pottery and a mosaic floor.

The museum illustrates the work of the bank and the financial system and offers a unique insight into of the history of London's currency.

One of the world’s oldest and finest museums, the British Museum started in 1749 in the form of royal physician Hans Sloane’s ‘cabinet of curiosities’ – which he later bequeathed to the country – and carried on expanding its collection (which now numbers some seven million items) through judicious acquisition and the controversial plundering of empire. It’s an exhaustive and exhilarating stampede through world cultures, with galleries devoted to Egypt, Western Asia, Greece, the Orient, Africa, Italy, the Etruscans, the Romans, prehistoric and Roman Britain and medieval antiquities. 
 
The museum is huge, so make a few focused visits if you have time, and consider the choice of tours. 

The Brunel Museum is a London-based museum, dedicated to the Brunels, and their great achievements, notably the Thames Tunnel, birthplace of the tube system.

The present building was a roofless ruin twenty-five years ago, and six years ago the museum was open to just 500 visitors a year.

Today it is open every day and runs community & education events that draw over 15,000 people to the Museum each year.

The Charles Dickens Museum is the world's most important collection of material relating to the great Victorian novelist and social commentator.

Synonymous with Victorian England, this is the only surviving London home of Dickens (from 1837 until 1839), author of such classics as 'Oliver Twist', 'A Christmas Carol' and 'David Copperfield'.

The building at 48 Doughty Street was threatened with demolition in 1923, but was saved by the Dickens Fellowship, founded in 1902, who raised the mortgage and bought the property's freehold. The house was renovated and the Dickens House Museum was opened in 1925, under the direction of an independent trust, now a registered charity.

The museum has since been renamed the Charles Dickens Museum.

Spread over four floors, the Charles Dickens Museum holds the world's most important collection of paintings, rare editions, manuscripts, original furniture and other items relating to the life and work of Dickens.[4] Perhaps the best-known exhibit is the portrait of Dickens known as Dickens' Dream by R. W. Buss, an original illustrator of The Pickwick Papers. This unfinished portrait shows Dickens in his study at Gads Hill Place surrounded by many of the characters he had created.

The Churchill Museum & Cabinet War Rooms are dedicated to the life of the "greatest Briton", Sir Winston Churchill, and the secret underground headquarters that were the nerve centre of Britain´s war effort.
In 1940, shortly after becoming Prime Minister, Churchill stood in the War Cabinet Room and declared: 'This is the room from which I will direct the war'. Today, you can step back in time to explore the secret headquarters where Churchill and his staff changed the course of history.

The Museum is on the site of England’s oldest prison and dates back to 1144. Visitors will experience a hands on educational and fun experience allowing them to handle original artefacts including torture devices.
The Clink Prison Museum is built upon the original site of the Clink Prison. The Prison dates back to 1144 making it one of England’s oldest, if not the oldest Prison. Visitors will experience a hands on educational experience allowing them to handle original artefacts, including torture devices, as well as the opportunity to view and hear the amazing stories of the inmates and the notorious Southbank. 
Owned by the Bishop of Winchester, The Clink Prison was used to control the Southbank of London known as “The Liberty of The Clink”.This area housed much of London’s entertainment establishments including four theatres, bull-baiting, bear-baiting, inns and many other darker entertainments.
 
The Clink Prison was only a small part of a vast complex on the Bankside that the Bishop owned called Winchester House. At one point in history Henry VIII planned to take control of the palace and use it as his own. Parts of the Great Hall still stand even today including the world famous Rose Arch Window preserved by English Heritage.
 
Visitors to the area included individuals such as William Shakespeare, King Henry VIII, Sir Francis Drake, Geoffrey Chaucer and many more.

The Design Museum is a museum by the River Thames near Tower Bridge in central London, England.

The museum covers product, industrial, graphic, fashion and architectural design. It was founded in 1989 and claims to be the first museum of modern design.[1]

Considered one of the best examples of Romanesque architecture in Britain, the Waterhouse Building has become a London landmark. Its high-spired towers soar above much of the skyline and its huge grand fa�ade - inspired by the basalt columns at Fingal's Cave in western Scotland - is awe inspiring.
